The Town is seeking community feedback on the proposed permanent planting of seven

Norfolk Island Pine trees along Marine Parade between Vera View and North Street.

The consultation is being undertaken in accordance with the principles of the Town's Beach Policy and will assist Council in making an informed decision on the future planting arrangements for this section of the beachfront.

The trees were planted as part of the Town's Street Tree Master Plan, which aims to:

• Increase tree canopy cover.
• Improve shade and amenity.
• Reduce the urban heat island effect.
• Enhance streetscapes and environmental outcomes.

Following the planting, feedback was received from community members that consultation should have occurred prior to any planting within the beachfront precinct.

The trees are Norfolk Island Pines (Araucaria heterophylla), a species commonly associated with coastal environments and a familiar feature of many beachside locations throughout Australia.

Norfolk Island Pines were selected because they are suited to coastal conditions and align with the objectives of the Street Tree Master Plan.
