Marine Parade Shared Path Upgrade Project

Project Overview

The Town of Cottesloe has secured $4.175m from the Australian Government’s Active Transport Fund (ATF) to upgrade the existing footpath on Marine Parade (Curtin Avenue to North Street). The upgrade will be delivered in stages over a period of four years.

At the April 2025 Council Meeting, Council endorsed a concept plan and principles for public consultation to receive feedback prior to progressing to detailed design.

The Town is seeking feedback from all users of Marine Parade (whether walking, cycling or driving) on the shared path concept plan. The Town is also seeking views on on-road cycling on Marine Parade, and ideas on safety improvements that will be used for planning for future road upgrades.

We encourage you to have a say. Please complete the survey before Thursday, 3 July 2025 (COB).

  • Marine Parade Shared Path Upgrade Project - survey

    The Town has secured $4.175m from the Australian Government’s Active Transport Fund (ATF) to upgrade the existing footpath on Marine Parade (Curtin Avenue to North Street). The upgrade will be delivered in stages over a period of four years, with 95% of the anticipated design and construction costs being covered by the funding. The proposed upgrade will achieve the vision of enhanced safety, increased accessibility and a more user-friendly environment for all users of this popular path.

    In April 2025 Council endorsed the following staged approach and a concept plan to seek feedback on:

    • Stage One – South of Forrest Street (Curtin Avenue to Forrest Street);
    • Stage Two – North of Napier Street (Napier Street to North Street); and
    • Stage Three – Foreshore Precinct (Forrest Street to Napier Street).

    This progressive approach allows the completion of the shared path sections to the north and south of the Foreshore Precinct whilst the Town continues to source funding for the Foreshore Redevelopment Project.

    The concept plan shows the project objectives being met largely by widening the existing path. This requires the removal of parking bays and creating new bays where possible, to offset some of the removed bays.

    In addition to the concept plan being based on an alignment with the existing path (and to create a connection to the Eric Street Shared Path), there are a number of sections that require further design investigation, and feedback received will be considered when finalising these elements. These include;

    • Heavily pedestrianised areas such as beach access path entry points;
    • Around Dutch Inn playground; and
    • North Cottesloe (near the surf club and cafes)

    Council also asked for the Town to seek views on on-road cycling on Marine Parade, and ideas on safety improvements that will be used for planning for future road upgrades.
